Returning Farriers from 2009: Don Miller, Johnny Miller, Bobby Jenkins, John Hall, Manny Madrid, and Karl Rossi. Newcomers are David Landreville, Joseph Garnett, Mike Gorczyca, Drew Morales, and Mark Glore (HEART of Tucson's farrier)
To understand the beauty of the horse is the closest human beings can come to perfection.
Mr. January, Bobby Jenkins, is a former PRCA bull rider whose son is learning the farrier trade from him. When he’s not working with horses, he enjoys spending time with his family and going bass fishing. Call him at (520) 906-9432.
Mr. February, John Hall, is a Tucson native who also runs Doc Kendrick Spice Company with his wife. He’s been a farrier for twelve years. He lives by his grandfather’s principles of family, faith, and the American Dream. Call him at (520) 647-1234
Mr. March, Karl Rossi, who, besides being a farrier, is an accomplished glass blower and artist. Visit his website, www.rossistudios.com/karl.htm, to see his fine work. Call Karl at (520) 818-1383.
Mr. April, Mike Gorczyca, is a Michigan native, who has been a farrier for 38 years, working in Tucson since 1983. Because it is important to maintain your horse’s hooves between farrier visits, Mike makes and markets his own brand of hoof dressing. Call Mike at (520) 881-8908, (520) 247-4936 to purchase his Double M Hoof Dressing or to arrange a farrier call.
Mr. May, David Landreville, has been a farrier for 6 years, specializing in restoring distorted feet back to proper form and function, and in corrective barefoot trimming. Contact David at (520) 850-2092.
Mr. June, Mark Glore, is very much a part of the HEART of Tucson organization, providing hoof care for all of the rescue horses. He specializes in therapeutic and corrective shoeing, working closely with the veterinarians who care for the rescues. He has been a farrier for thirty-five years. Contact Mark at 520-449-0441.
Mr. July, Manny Madrid, is well known around Southern Arizona, where he grew up. In addition to his farrier services, Manny is also a “horse-sitter.” If you have to be away, he will take care of your horses for you. Contact him at 520-360-5065.
Mr. August, Joseph Garnett, who has lived in Tucson for thirteen years, apprenticed with John Hall (Mr. February) and has been working as a farrier for two years. What he likes best about being a farrier is being around horses and working for himself. Call him at (520) 574-1914.
Mr. September, Johnny Miller, who has competed in team roping, calf roping, and bull riding from about the age of 10, is a farrier who loves horses and loves to work with them. His interest in managing a horse’s healthy stride and natural balance serves him and the horses he works with very well. Call him at (520) 429-0011.
Mr. October, Don Miller, began riding horses before he could walk and did some bareback riding and roping as a young rodeo cowboy. He is skilled in shoeing as well as caring for barefoot horses. Call Don at (520) 850-0813.
Mr. November, Drew Morales, was introduced to horses at age 9 and has been hooked ever since. As a certified farrier, he believes strongly in solid basics, shoemaking, and continuing education in order to give every horse the best possible care. Contact him at (520) 331-6678
Mr. December, Mark Glore, back this month with Dante, a rescue from HEART. Mark faces formidable tasks when it comes to caring for rescued horses. Horses who have been abused or starved or abandoned, are unlikely to have had regular hoof care, and so the job falls to Mark. See Heart’s blog for some of his challenges.
